Getting started with Ledger App — your guide to secure cryptocurrency management

Setup Your Ledger Device

Unboxing and Initial Setup

When you receive your Ledger device, carefully unbox it and ensure all components are present. This typically includes the Ledger hardware wallet, USB cable, recovery sheets, and instructions.

Begin by powering on your device. Follow the on-screen prompts to select your preferred language and create a secure PIN. Your PIN is crucial for device protection, so make it unique and memorable.

Generating Recovery Phrase

The Ledger device will display a 24-word recovery phrase. Write this down carefully on the provided recovery sheet. This phrase is the only way to restore your wallet if your device is lost or damaged. Never store it digitally or share it with anyone.

Connecting Ledger Device

Once setup is complete, connect your Ledger to your computer or smartphone using the provided USB cable. The device will be ready to pair with the Ledger Live application for managing your cryptocurrencies.

Install Ledger Live

Downloading the App

Ledger Live is the official companion app for your Ledger device. Visit Ledger.com/Start to download the version compatible with your operating system. The app is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Installing and Launching

Follow the installation wizard to set up Ledger Live. After installation, open the app and allow any necessary permissions. Ledger Live provides a user-friendly dashboard to manage accounts, install apps, and monitor balances.

Adding Accounts

Inside Ledger Live, navigate to the “Accounts” section. Add your desired cryptocurrency accounts by selecting the supported assets. This will allow you to securely receive, send, and track digital assets directly from the app.

Security & Backups

Protecting Your Ledger Device

Keep your Ledger device in a safe and secure location. Avoid sharing your PIN or recovery phrase with anyone. Ledger hardware wallets are designed to isolate your private keys from online threats, but physical security is equally important.

Using Recovery Phrase Safely

Store your recovery phrase offline in a safe place. Consider using a fireproof safe or a specialized backup device. If your Ledger is lost or damaged, this recovery phrase is your only way to restore your assets.

Regular Updates

Keep both your Ledger device firmware and Ledger Live app updated. Updates often include security enhancements, bug fixes, and support for new cryptocurrencies. Enable notifications in Ledger Live to stay informed about the latest updates.
